XMi Commercial Real Estate Broker Sale of Murphy School Building
NASHVILLE, TENN. - Stan Snipes, president of XMi Commercial Real Estate, and Rick Helton, managing director of ProVenture Commercial Real Estate, recently negotiated the sale of one of Metropolitan Nashville’s oldest public schools, Murphy School, a 17,000 square foot school building that has been vacant since May 2004.
Snipes represented the seller, the heirs of Anna H. Murphy who owned Murphy School, located at 2000 Murphy Avenue in the medical district of midtown Nashville and one block north of Baptist Hospital. The closing of the .72-acre property was on January 18, 2006, selling for $1.3 million where Helton represented the buyer, an undisclosed business entity.
The Murphy School dates back to 1905 when the Murphy Estate gave title to an eight-square mile block of land to the city of Nashville, with the caveat to build a school on a portion of that land. An eight classroom building was constructed at a cost of $30,000, and was opened in 1908 as Murphy Elementary School. Since then, the school has had many transitions and lastly was the Murphy Alternative Learning Center, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools’ first alternative school program for zero tolerance offenders, including educating Metro’s zero-tolerance weapons violators. The school system closed the historic doors of the Murphy School at the end of the May 2004 school year.
